BioPatience is, in all respects, a very influential woman.
Very influential, that is, if you're on Whitefall.
At one time, she was a settler on that dry and dusty moon, fighting for land rights. Carving out a piece of land to call her own. It'd be about that time she shot one Malcolm Reynolds, who isn't too bright a boy, come to tell. He got too close to what she considered hers, and paid for it.
But that's in the past, right? She's practically the mayor of that outpost of a moon, now. Moving up in the 'verse.
Patience is an older woman, tough as nails, speaks her mind, and is as crafty as a snake. She never pays for what she doesn't have to, and doesn't mind setting up some poor schmuck to take the fall if it means it will benefit her. The years of scrapping out a living on Whitefall have left their mark on Patience - she'll win no beauty contests with her leathery skin and fried greying hair. She doesn't care much about her looks, however. It's about power, influence, making things happen, making other people dance to her tune. She has all the skills necessary to make a good leader of a colony moon - she's a crack shot with that rifle of hers, she can ride just about anything worth riding, she can make the common folk believe that she cares... and she never loses sight of her goals.
Patience was one of the first colonists on Whitefall, after the terraforming was completed. She was young and pretty then, and came out to this brand new world to make a life for herself. What no one told her is that it wouldn't be all of the joy and happiness the recruiting letter had claimed. Years passed, a war raged on to completion, and Patience firmly grounded herself on Whitefall, slowly buying up land from other colonists as their farms threatened to go under. A canny businesswoman, she managed to save more than she lost, building a little empire on her little world. Malcolm almost got in the way of that, attempting to steal deeds that were rightfully hers, but she settled that in a calm and reasonable fashion. Mostly by shooting him. After that he saw the light and took himself off, leaving her to lay claim to the land.
Now Whitefall has a proper capital city, with a city hall and all, just like those core worlds. Patience will be a major player one day. Just you wait.
